Welcome to the new version of Old Bucks News. This is the second biggest change since I began editing and publishing twice yearly newsletters in November 1999.

Now, we have abandoned the twice yearly idea completely. News items can arrive at any time.

As with any change, there is a need to get accustomed to how it all works. It’s a big learning curve for me. But having coped with the earlier changes I am confident that it will be successful, and improve. Meanwhile, I appreciate your patience and of course feedback. And anyone with experience of Wordpress is very welcome to help me with advice.

I hope you will appreciate the benefit of not having to wait for up to six months to see news and features.

I shall continue to use the Mailchimp mailing list which has been running since we moved to digital publishing. But the messages will be much shorter. Some of these messages will go to a limited number of our members. If, for example, a specific year group is planning a reunion, the message would be restricted to that group. General mailings will happen around four times a year, but there could be additional messages if I need to make important announcements.

Our normal website (www.bhchs.co.uk) will continue to be used for archiving, and to hold the database which has details of when you were at BHCHS, either as a pupil or member of staff, and other details. Since we stopped mailing out printed newsletters in 2021, I have not attempted to update home addresses, but it is helpful to have changes of phone number, and essential to have any changes to your email address.

Want to grab a piece of school history?

The memorabilia I have accumulated over the past quarter century includes more than 40 duplicate copies of our school magazine. The “Roding” suffered a premature death 16 years before the same fate befell the school. We told the story of the magazine in the May 2009 edition of OB News (see page 26).

If you would like to own a copy please contact me. I have spare copies from most years between 1943 and 1973. No charge, but I would appreciate a contribution towards postage.
